Hospital Policies

Appointment policy

There is a standard fee. This fee includes an examination room reserved for you and your pet(s), the comfort of knowing that your room will be clean, free of pet odors and that all efforts are made that you are seen on schedule. Occasionally emergencies can happen and we ask for your patience. If you are unable to wait please inform us and we will be glad to reschedule your appointment. We ask that if you are running late to please call ahead so we can make the appropriate changes in scheduling.

Prescriptions

There are overwhelming opportunities available to our clients to order medications on the internet and via phone. As a result it becomes increasing difficult to manage patient medications through these means and we had to establish the following policy governing prescriptions.

For the protection of the health and well being of our patients, and due to the difficulties in assuring continuity of patient care, we regret that we must decline authorization of third party or electronic prescription requests. We will also be unable to mail the prescription.

We will be happy to provide you with one of the following options, please call either office to arrange a suitable arrangement:

  1. A written prescription, within 24 business hours, to be picked up at either of our locations to be filled at a pharmacy of your choice, or
  2. A prescription to be dispensed through our online pharmacy.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to provide uninterrupted medical coverage for your pet and your understanding.

Heartworm Testing

We require that all of our canine patients be tested regularly on an annual basis to ensure that they are heartworm negative. While continuously being on heartworm medication is nearly 100% effective, there is no way to absolutely guarantee that the medication is being metabolized properly.

Heartworm medication is a prescription item; they should not be purchased over the counter to ensure your pets health. We DO NOT dispense heartworm medication without current proof of a heartworm negative test result. This policy has been established for the safety of your pet.

Cats are at risk for heartworms just like dogs. We also recommend that your cat be tested, for more information please contact our staff.

Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork All patients are required to have pre-anesthetic bloodwork prior to anesthesia being administered for all procedures. Anesthesia poses a risk regardless of species, breed, age or sex. This blood work evaluates the kidneys, liver, blood sugar, protein levels, evidence of a any infections (white cell count), anemia (red blood cell count), and the ability for the blood to clot (platelet count).

By requiring this test, it minimizes the risk of post anesthesia complications and ensures that your pet can process the anesthesia properly.

Hospital Admitting Requirements

We require that your pet be current on all vaccinations and tests prior to being admitted into our hospital for any procedure. If your pet has a medical condition that will not allow for him or her to be updated please speak with the Dr. prior to making your appointment. Vaccinations are the best way to ensure that your pet stays healthy while it is under our care.

Requiring vaccinations helps us to ensure that other animals in our care do not contract specific bacteria/viruses while staying at the clinic.

Proof of current vaccinations and tests: if your pet is not current on requirements, we can update those for you while having your procedure!
